Mari-Lyn Harris

Welcome to Food 4 Social Change! Mari-Lyn the Founder and CEO. Chief Energizing Officer. Looking forward in working with you. As a community we can grow and develop together.

Food 4 Social Change is based on the idea of creating a Kitchen Incubator and launch pad for Food Start-ups and Social Change Entrepreneurs to provide commercial kitchen rentals and business development services. Bootcamps for Entrepreneurs to build a foundation for their businesses’ success. In an environment of support, collaboration/partnership to assist you to take the next step in your food business.

By offering a place or community in which we can support and help each other it a key component in being successful. Currently, we are serving in the San Francisco Bay area of California, USA. We’ve partnered up with the Hayward Action Network of which they are interested in leasing kitchen space for their catering business as well as they are advocates for the homeless, which will fit into our Culinary Skills Training program.

The biggest challenge for Food Entrepreneurs is having the direction and resources to do get started. When I started Sedona Pies, this was my intention of using the pies as a vehicle for social change, like feeding the hungry. Thus, my tagline was “Feed the hungry one pie at a time.” I also had a vision of having a community kitchen in which I could teach youth or hire challenged people to make pies, learn a skill or trade and have an operational commercial bakery that had many deliverables to it.

How do you get started with your Food idea to create a business?

There are many people who I get calls from, people asking me,”How did you get started and where can I go?

Even though most states in the USA, now have Home-cottage Laws, this only applies to non-hazards goods. It’s a great start however anything out of this category, you still need a commercial kitchen.

Food 4 Social Change Kitchen Incubator will be a teaching and training Entrepreneurs business development skills, assist in getting funding, marketing etc. Plus, there will be many opportunities to expand, learn how to make a difference in your local community.
